Local Aboriginal or TSI Artists or Designers

Seeking original artworks from local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artists.

Purchase or commissions of artworks.

Summary:

Enable WA is looking for 5 original artworks from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from the Bunbury (Goomburrup), Busselton (Undalup), Perth (Boorloo), Manjimup and Mandurah (Mandjoogoordap) regions for our offices.

Key points:

Applications for this Project will open on March 11th, and close May 5th.

Art can either be purchased (bought if it already exists) or commissioned (artists will be paid to create the idea they put forward).

The successful applicants will be announced at the beginning of Reconciliation Week (27th May), with artworks due to be delivered to each office during NAIDOC Week (July 7 - 14th).

Who We Are:

Enable WA is a disability support and care provider that has been servicing Western Australia for over 30 years. We work with clients on the NDIS, as well as those in aged care, and support them in reaching their personal goals - be it in daily living, being a part of their local community, learning social skills, or by just knowing they have someone they can trust to support them well.

We pride ourselves on offering quality supports, from people who genuinely care about the wellbeing of their clients. Our Support Workers, Service Coordinators, Therapy Team and Management all hold the same core values, which are centred on ensuring our clients are supported in making their own choices to live the life they want.

The Project:

At the end of 2022, we began working on our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), to help our Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander clients and staff feel more welcome and included in our services, practices, and environments. Part of our RAP includes making our offices feel more welcoming and inviting. Our RAP group decided the best way to do this was to offer a grant to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artist, local to each region.

We have five offices in total: in Manjimup, Busselton, Bunbury, Mandurah and Perth, and each office will require an artwork (or piece of art).

2023's winning artworks have been greatly received, and we are excited to be adding more art to our offices in 2024.

What We Are Looking For:

We are looking for artworks that encapsulate the work that we do in each local community, or an artwork that represents the local area, that can be brought back to helping others, or culture.

Key themes that could be potentially included in the artwork are:

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health

• Wellbeing

• Culture

• Community

• Collaboration

• Openness

• Respect

• Empowerment

The artwork will be used as an identifiable image of Enable WA and will be displayed publicly. In addition, the artwork may be included on promotional resources including printed and digital publications, social media, our website, and potentially, clothing (to be discussed should it arise).

All artwork will be properly credited in all cases.

Eligibility:

  1. The artist must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, be a resident of one of our regions, and have a connection to their selected region (Bunbury, Busselton, Manjimup, Mandurah or Perth).

  2. All designs and concepts must be the authentic and original work of the artist submitting the design.

  3. Participants are required to submit their ABN if possible as part of the engagement.

  4. The total amount available per grant is up to $1000. Please include how much you are selling your completed or proposed art for in your application. Payment will be provided upon receiving the final artwork.
